This year’s 2025 Inside Self Storage Expo was buzzing with technology innovation, business strategy, and utilizing actionable insights to drive business decisions. Revue was excited to have our debut at the World Expo at our partner, Zion Call Management’s booth. Being at this year’s expo gave us a great opportunity to connect with operators about owning and improving their online visibility.

We had the chance to talk directly with owners about the real-world impact of generating reviews and how important consistency is.

Negative reviews are a part of doing business. While no one enjoys receiving them they can serve as valuagle insights and opportunities for improvement. With negative reviews it is important to understand that preventing or suppressing negative revews by filtering feedback before it’s posted (review gating), violates Terms of Service for various platforms like Google. Review gating can result in penalties, reduced visibility and even account suspension. 

Instead of focusing on avoiding bad reviews, the goal should be to manage your online reputation. Effective reputation management software can help facility owners by:

    • Automating review requests to consistently generate feedback from your customer base. 
    • Send notifications when a new review is posted so you can respond quickly
    • Provide a centralized dashboard where you can respond and track review metrics from various sources.

Knowing how to respond to reviews, especially negative ones can be a daunting task and will shape public perception of your facility. When responding to review here are some simple guidelines. 

    • Respond promptly: Aim to respond within 48 hours to show that you’re attentive and engaged in your customer’s feedback
    • Stay professional and polite: Negative responses are hard to respond to but keep your response calm, respectful, and solution oriented.
    • Personalization: Use the review’s name (if applicable) and reference details that were mentioned in their review to show that the response isn’t automated. 
    • Invite further discussion offline: For complicated reviews, offer to continue the conversation privately by phone or email to resolve the tenants’ concerns
